Mary Hampton, 89, from Berkhamsted in Hertfordshire, had her bike stolen while she was shopping. While she admits it was silly to leave it unlocked, she told the BBC that she never had in 85 years. After her plight was shared on social media she was flooded with offers to replace her bike.
Her local cycling club, the Berkhamsted Cycling Club, has since loaned her a bicycle “for as long as I need it,” she said.
And she now also have a lock.
“One bad action happened, but think of the wonderful kindness and caring that’s come from it,” she said.
