A month and a half after the announcement that a dozen Costa Rican riders were nabbed for positive substances at the Vuelta Ciclista Internacional a Costa Rica in December, two riders have been handed four year bans.
Scott TeleUno rider Vladimir Fernandez Torres, who won stage 4 and finished fifth overall, plus the temporary race leader Melvin Mora Garita (Multiples Corella) have been given that sanction for their use of the EPO-related product CERA.
They have both been banned until December 21 2021.
The duo are the first of the dozen riders from the race to be sanctioned. Other sentences will presumably follow.
