Crashes cause cancellation of North Star Grand Prix stage

by CyclingTips

Two crashes on the second criterium stage of the North Star Grand Prix women’s race resulted in the stage being cancelled by officials, with only two laps remaining in the race.

Race leader Brianna Walle (Team Tibco) said the majority of the riders agreed with the call.

“It made sense to me,” Walle said after the race. “Both crashes were pretty bad. There was so much disarray and nerves that it was safer to call it quits. There were still people down on the road, so it was a good decision.”

The course was modified for the subsequent men’s race, which was won in a sprint by Justin Williams (Cyclance-Cannondale) ahead of US criterium champion Brad Huff (Rally).
