Zoidl takes stage and overall lead on queen stage in Croatia

by Mark Zalewski

Riccardo Zoidl (Trek-Segafredo) stamped his name all over the first mountain stage of the Tour of Croatia, riding away from everyone on the climb to Ucka. However, he was not able to win by enough time to take over the leader’s jersey, with Matija Kvasina finishing second and able to hold onto an 18 second lead.

The queen stage of the race was a long climb, and the Austrian waited a long time, elevating the pace here and there to thin the leading group, before attacking alone.

The next stage is an important team time trial, which will have a big impact on the overall classification.
