Australian police are investigating after a rider was hit by multiple bullets in Everton, Australia on Saturday. At least one round hit him in the head and others hit his chest, but he survived the attack.
According to the Border Mail, Detective Senior Constable Matt Prestage said he was fortunate to live.
“He’s extremely lucky, particularly being shot in the head,” he said. “It fractured his skull but didn’t penetrate his brain. He’s in a serious but stable condition and is undergoing further surgery today.”
There were no witnesses to the shooting.
The victim is a 72 year old Melbourne resident who was visiting the area. He has no prior involvement with the police, and the reason for the attack is a mystery.
“The motive will be at the heart of the investigation,” said Prestage.
“Whether it was a targeted attack against this person, or a random attack, is still to be determined.”
