Cort wins uphill sprint in Tour of Denmark, stage 2

by Mark Zalewski

Magnus Cort (Team PostNord Danmark) out-sprinted Moreno Hofland (LottoNL – Jumbo) and Daniele Benatti (Tinkoff). The ORICA-BikeExchange rider is guest riding for his home country team.

LottoNL-Jumbo drove the pace inside the final 10km. With one 6.2km finish circuit to go LottoNL sat up and Astana came through, along with Virtu Pro Veloconcept.

Lars Boom (Astana) put in a strong solo attack on an uphill with 2.3km to go, using the narrow and winding parcours to his advantage. Other riders tried to come across, with Tinkoff’s Pavel Brut doing just that and passing Boom.

But a solo win was not to be, and the slight uphill finish produce a slow-motion field sprint that saw Cort take it with the bike throw on the line ahead of Hofland and Bennati.

Bennati remains in the overall and points leaders’ jerseys.
