Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf reports that Tom Dumoulin will target the Giro d’Italia this year, adding to what Dumoulin had already hinted at when the 2017 route was announced.
“The course of the 100th edition of the Giro d’Italia looks beautiful!” he said on his Facebook page in October.
“Nicely balanced with sprint stages, quite some time trial kilometres, but some brutal and legendary climbing as well like the Mortirolo and the Stelvio on stage 16, for example.
“Climbing these monsters will for sure create some epic battles. Last year I trained near Bormio to prepare for the Vuelta 2015 so I’m quite familiar with those climbs and how exceptionally difficult they are.”
The De Telegraaf also reported that teammate and compatriot Wilco Kelderman will join him on the Team Sunweb roster.
