Dylan Groenewegen wins stage 2 of the Tour of Norway

by VeloClub

Following Edvald Boasson Hagen’s success on Wednesday’s opening stage of the Tour of Norway, it was Dylan Groenewegen’s turn to shine on the second day of racing. The Dutch LottoNL-Jumbo rider was quickest in the sprint to the line, beating U23 world champion Kristoffer Halvorsen plus Boasson Hagen to take his third win of the year.

“This is a team victory,” he said. “Yesterday it was too difficult and we knew that. Today, we had to go and it worked out. It was a perfect sprint. I was perfectly put in the right spot and did not see anyone anymore when I sprinted.”

Three riders escaped early on, and from this move Fernando Orjuela (Team Manzana Postobon) later attacked solo. However he was caught as the peloton started the final circuit in Brumunddal. That set things up for the sprint, where Groenewegen was best.

He later thanked the others on the LottoNL-Jumbo squad for their work. “It gives me confidence when the team is riding like that. It’s great to finish it in this way.”

Boasson Hagen continues to lead overall. He is eight seconds clear of Tosh Van Der Sande (Lotto Soudal) and two ahead of Simon Gerrans (Orica-Scott).
