Etixx-QuickStep satisfied with Giro results

by CyclingTips

Traditionally known as a Classics programme, the Belgian Etixx-QuickStep team came out of this year’s Giro d’Italia with its best performance ever, with four stage wins, days in the Maglia Rosa and Bob Jungels finishing sixth overall and in the white jersey as best young rider.

Ahead of the Giro, most knew that the team’s sprinter Marcel Kittel would be good for at least a couple of stage wins, and he certainly delivered. Kittel wore the sprint jersey as well before dropping out of the race to prepare for the Tour de France.

But the future is certainly bright with Jungels developing into a true GC contender in the Grand Tours.

“I’m very happy and extremely proud,” said Patrick Lefevere.

“This is a young team, with a huge potential, and I’m sure the riders will continue to grow in the years to come. Our results were extraordinary and the victories were great also because of the way we got them, showing panache, confidence and an incredible team spirit every time.”
