by CyclingTips

The two biggest favourites for the Dutch National TT title, Ellen van Dijk and Anna van der Breggen, will not be participating due to injuries and illness. Van der Breggen (Rabo-Liv) crashed in the Aviva Women’s Tour last week and is also ill whilevan der Breggen (Boels-Dolmans) is suffering from back problems.

“It is a combination of both,” Van der Breggen said of recovering from her crash and illness. “I’m not fit enough.”

However, Van der Breggen is hoping the rest will allow her to start the road race. “I will try to get fully fit for the national championships on the road on Friday.”

Former world time trial champion Van Dijk is missing the TT because of back pain. “Unfortunately, I through out my back,” she said. She is unsure if she will be able to race the road race.

Both women have already qualified for the time trial at the Olympic Games in Rio.
