Five WorldTour teams announced for Ster ZLM Tour

by Mark Zalewski

The Ster ZLM Tour will have five WorldTour squads racing among 16 total teams. The Dutch 2.1 stage race announced Monday that Sunweb, LottoNL-Jumbo, Quick-Step Floors, Katusha, and Lotto-Soudal will compete.

Pro Continental teams Cofidis and Wanty Groupe Gobert were also selected, with strong squads that often trade blows with the upper-division teams, and that will also be in the Tour de France a month later.

Also among the Pro Continental teams are the Roompot-Dutch Lottery and Belgian squads Sport Flanders-Baloise, WB Veranclassic-Aqua Protect and Veranda’s Willems-Crelan, which could start the cyclocross world champion Wout van Aert. Last year Van Aert took second on a stage and finished eighth in the points competition.

The Ster ZLM Tour starts on Wednesday, June 14 with a prologue in Westkapelle and finishes in Oss on Sunday, June 18.

Sep Vanmarcke won the overall last year, however his Cannondale-Drapac team will not take the start this year.
