Gianni Moscon (Italy) finished yesterday’s world championships road race in 29th place after marking a dangerous move from Julian Alaphilippe (France) over the top of the day’s final climb. But the Italian was later disqualified after video emerged of the Italian taking a tow from his team car.

Moscon had been caught in a crash on the penultimate lap and made a somewhat improbable return to the bunch before marking Alaphilippe’s move.
The incident was reminiscent of the one that saw Moscon’s compatriot Vincenzo Nibali ejected from the 2015 Vuelta a Espãna.
