Meanwhile in the Netherlands, Dylan Groenwegen (LottoNL-Jumbo) continued his run of impressive form, outsprinting Wouter Wippert (Cannondale) and Wim Stroetinga (Parkhotel Valkenburg) to win the Dutch national road title.
“It’s amazing. This is the first time that I am the Dutch champion,” Groenwegen said. “The last time the team grabbed the title was quite long ago. I was the main favourite as well, so I felt some pressure. I was very confident, on the other hand. We finished it off as a team.”
The day’s breakaway was caught late in the race around Outdoorp before LottoNL-Jumbo took control of proceedings and piloted Groenwegen into position. Stroetinga opened up the sprint but faded as 23-year-old Groenwegen powered to the line.
Groenwegen will line up for his first Tour de France this week wearing the colours of Dutch champion.
