Grzegorz Stepniak wins first stage of Tour of Estonia

by CyclingTips

The two-stage Tour of Estonia began with a 190km race from Tallinn to Tartu, won out of a field sprint by Grzegorz Stepniak (CCC Sprandi Polkowice) just ahead of Estonia’s Mihkel Räim (Cycling Academy) and Ludwig Bengtsson (Sweden).

The Estonian rider was hoping for the home win. “I came here to win and we were close,“ said Räim.

“I am proud of the boys who helped me today and worked like a real cycling team should. It was a predictable race actually. Fast and with few successful breakaways,“ he added.

Because of slight tailwind the average speed was very fast, nearly 47 km/h.

The final stage features a 9.6km loop in the city of Tartu, with a total of 15 laps for 144km.
