It’s hard to believe that GU Energy introduced its first energy gel 25 years ago (two years before Wout van Aert was born). To commemorate the occasion, the company is introducing a limited-edition gel in – what else – birthday cake flavour, complete with a festive wrapper.
Aside from the special flavour, the primary ingredients in the new GU gel flavour are the same as always, including a mix of carbohydrates, sodium, and “branched-chain amino acids to reduce mental fatigue and decrease muscle damage.” Whether or not you buy into GU’s claims of improved performance, few people can argue against the idea of eating cake while on a ride.
Retail price is US$1.50 per packet, or US$36 for a box of 24.
