The future of Germany’s only WorldTour race, the Hamburg Cyclassics, is in doubt beyond 2016 unless a title sponsor can be found.

“Unless the economic situation changes, then we will have to seriously think about moving the event somewhere where it will be more profitable,” organiser Christian Toetzke told Hamburger Abendblatt.
Electricity supplier Vattenfall had sponsored the event for 20 years, but suddenly withdrew their sponsorship in 2015 and the event has been unsuccessful in finding a replacement.
The 2016 edition is fully-funded, but could be the final edition for Hamburg, unless a new title sponsor can be found. That sponsor would need to supply 500,000 euro to help cover the 3.2 million euro budget.
“Interest in the Cyclassics is great,” said Toetzke. “We have two concrete, ready-for-signature offers from businesses wanting to carry out the concept of Cyclassics in other cities — in Germany and in a neighboring country. However, both companies refused Hamburg because they do not have their headquarters here.”
