by CyclingTips

Valcar-PBM’s Claudia Cretti remains in critical condition after a high-speed crash on Stage 7 of the Giro Rosa Thursday, suffering suffered severe head trauma, leading to multiple contusions. She was operated on overnight to decompress the pressure on her brain and to take out a cerebral hematoma.

Cretti crashed heavily on the final descent of Stage 7, reportedly traveling at a speed of over 55mph before losing control and hitting her head on a guardrail.

A medical statement released by Giro Rosa organisers explained that Cretti “remains in a medically induced coma to prevent secondary neurological damage,” and that her condition is critical, but stable.
