by Mark Zalewski

The Joe Martin Stage Race in Arkansas began Thursday with the switchback-laden uphill Devil’s Den time trial. World champ Linda Villumsen (UnitedHealthcare) won the women’s race by 18 seconds while Jamis’ Janier Acevedo had a closer race, winning by only three seconds over Nigel Ellsay (Silber).

Lauren Stephens (Tibco-SVB), the 2015 overall winner, finished 26 seconds behind Villumsen. Men’s defending champion John Murphy (UnitedHealthcare) is 43 seconds down. The racing continues through the weekend with two road stages and a final criterium.
