Jonathan Hivert victorious at the Vuelta a Castilla y Leon

by CyclingTips

Frenchman Jonathan Hivert (Direct Energie) has claimed overall victory in the Vuelta a Castilla y Leon, a three-stage Spanish race.

Hivert finished fourth on the race’s opening stage, as Alexander Evtushenko (Lokosphinx) slipped away to win the stage solo by seven seconds. Hivert then won solo on the race’s second stage, the 32-year-old finishing 16 seconds ahead of Jaime Roson (Caja Rural) and 32 seconds clear of Henrique Casimiro (Efapel) on the uphill finish.

Carlos Barbero (Movistar) won the stage 3 bunch sprint while Hivert finished on bunch time to wrap up victory in the general classification. Hivert’s stage 2 win was his first of the season and his overall victory was his first stage-race win since the 2013 Etoille de Besseges.
