Jonathan Hivert wins both stages and overall at Haut Var Matin

Frenchman Jonathan Hivert (Direct Energie) put in an impressive performance over the weekend to win both stages and the overall at the Tour Cycliste International du Haut Var Matin.

On a lumpy opening stage in the south east of France, Hivert opened up a gap on the uphill drag to the line, finishing one second ahead of a group of 18 riders. That victory put the 32-year-old into the overall lead.

On Sunday’s second and final stage, Hivert was again first across the line, this time at the head of a group of six riders.

The victories are Hivert’s first for the season, his previous victory being the overall at the Vuelta a Castilla y Leon in May 2017.
