Marczynski, Van Vleuten win, Froome crashes, bus destroyed: Daily News Digest
Katusha rider Maxim Belkov was shoved from his bike by a spectator at the Vuelta a España on Thursday, with the Russian pushed over a barrier on the day’s final climb.
“At one kilometre from the KOM I was alone, just dropped,” he said. “Then from the side of the road a guy in a red t-shirt showed up and threw me, like in rugby, from my bike, over the fence with my face right into the ditch. He came full gas [at me], we cannot let this go like this.”
The incident was captured on two fan videos and showed the assailant running from the right-hand side of the road and assaulting Belkov. The spectator was quickly apprehended by Spanish police.
Belkov finished 94th on the stage, over 15 minutes back.
