Kevin Rivera wins the Tour of China II

by CyclingTips

Nineteen-year-old Costa Rican Kevin Rivera (Androni-Sidermec) has taken overall honours at the Tour of China II after taking the lead on the first day of racing.

Rivera won the first stage of the five-stage race with a solo move that saw him finish 19 seconds clear of his closest rival. As Scott Sunderland (IsoWhey SwissWellness) won stage 2, Marco Benefatto (Androni-Sidermec) claimed stage 3 and 4, and Maris Bogdanovics (Rietumu Banka – Riga) won the final stage, Rivera held strong at the top of the general classification.

In the end Rivera finished 22 seconds clear, the first three from stage 1 retaining that order on the general classification.

Kevin Rivera joined the pro ranks this season. His stage 1 victory at the Tour of China II was the first win of his career.
