Marianne Vos claims her first win of the season at Trofee Maarten Wynants

by CyclingTips

It’s been a quiet start to the year for Marianne Vos (WM3 Energie) but in her sixth race for 2017, the three-time world champion has her first victory.

Vos won the bunch kick to take out the Trofee Maarten Wynants race in Belgium, outsprinting Maria Confalonieri (Lensworld-Kuota) and Eva Buurman (Parkhotel Valkenburg-Destil).

“We already knew pretty quickly that it would end in a bunch sprint,” said W3M Emergie team manager Eric van den Boom. “That scenario had been discussed prior to the race. According to plan, the team placed Marianne two hundred meters from the finish line. They finished off the team work nicely.”Vos, too, paid tribute to her teammates.

“Spring had not gone so far as hoped. This is a beautiful victory, ” she said. “We were there today with only four riders, because the rest of the team is in China. I have rarely had such a nice lead-out.”
