Mihaylov takes solo win, lead at Sibiu Cycling Tour

by CyclingTips

Nikolay Mihaylov (CCC Sprandi Polkowice) won solo on the second stage of the Sibiu Cycling Tour, attacking out of the main break on the final climb to take the win, 3’45” ahead of second place Francesco Gavazzi (Androni Giocattoli – Sidermec). Derk Beckeringh (Abel Parkhotel Valkenburg CT) came in third at nearly four minutes down.

Mihaylov’s win gives him the overall lead heading into the final two stages over the weekend.

The break of the day must have had the right combination of riders as the peloton let the gap grow to more than 13 minutes. At 25km to go the break still had a huge gap and the stronger riders began to attack for the win.

At 11km to go approaching the final climb, Mihaylov made his move and the remainder of the group broke apart on the ascent, with riders coming across one-by-one.

Defending overall winner and Mihaylov’s teammate, Davide Rebellin, finished in a group 13 minutes down.
