Moreno Hofland on his new team

by CyclingTips

Moreno Hofland said he needed a change, and he thinks moving to Marc Sergeant’s Lotto Soudal team in 2017 will provide just that. He had multiple wins in 2014, including stage wins at Paris-Nice, the Tour of Utah and the Ruta del Sol. However, he had only two wins in 2015, at the Ster ZLM Tour and Tour de Yorkshire, and the top step eluded him completely in 2016.

“That was very frustrating,” he said at the team’s training camp in Mallorca.

“2016 was a year in which it was always almost. After the spring I just did a ‘reset,’ and I felt then ready to score in the second part of the season. I headed to a few smaller stage races and there were chances, but every time I made small mistakes in the sprint.

“When the will to win was too big you make mistakes. Now that time is behind me — in this new team I want to win again.”

While he is seeking wins, he said it will be in the context of the already powerful sprint train that includes Andre Greipel and Dylan Groenewegen, with Hofland looking to help power the lead-outs at the bigger races and take the lead in other ones.
