Movistar Team announces Tour de France shortlist

by VeloClub

Nairo Quintana and Alejandro Valverde will head towards the Tour de France intent on taking glory, and will be backed by seven others from the Movistar team in the race. A shortlist of the riders in the running for those places was released on Tuesday by the Spanish squad, with a total of 12 teammates named.

Those are Andrey Amador, Daniele Bennati, Carlos Betancur, Jonathan Castroviejo, Alex Dowsett, Imanol Erviti, Rubén Fernández, Jesús Herrada, Dani Moreno, Nelson Oliveira, José Joaquín Rojas and Jasha Sütterlin.

The final decision will be made after the national road race and time trial championships next week.

Quintana rode the Giro d’Italia, finishing second behind Tom Dumoulin. Despite many other riders struggling to mount a strong GC challenge after riding the Giro beforehand, the Colombia believes this will be possible.

Valverde has been in strong form this year, winning the Vuelta a Murcia, the Vuelta Andalucia, the Volta a Catalunya, the Vuelta al Pais Vasco, Flèche Wallonne and Liège-Bastogne-Liège.
