Person of interest sought in tack incident

by CyclingTips

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office in Colorado is seeking information on a person of interest regarding an incident of tacks tossed on a road popular with cyclists. Multiple cyclists suffered punctures when they encountered hundreds of tacks spread on the road over the July 4 holiday weekend.

“I was just really, honestly saddened that someone would endanger people to this degree in such an inhumane way. I think it’s easy to just attack cyclists as a community, but I’m a mom, I’m a teacher, I’m a person. And my kids expect me to come home to them,” said cyclist Jen Barnhart.

The group says there is an ongoing feud between cyclists and motorists, and believe this incident stems from that.

While reporting on the story a local TV news crew found a label from a package of tacks on the side of the road and turned it into police, which led them to a local supermarket and surveillance footage.

“Well, they were in the King Soopers the night before and purchased a large number of thumb tacks. So, coincidence? Maybe. But perhaps not, so we’d like to clarify that,” the police said.
