Pichon wins Route Adélie de Vitré

by Mark Zalewski

Laurent Pichon (Fortuneo – Vital Concept) won the Route Adélie de Vitré in France in a reduced sprint ahead of Cyril Gautier (AG2R La Mondiale) and Julien Simon (Cofidis).

Early breaks tried to form but strong winds made the task difficult. Andrea Palini (Androni Giocattoli-Sidermec), Gatis Smukulis (Delco-Marseille Provence KTM) and Joeri Calleeuw (Roubaix-Lille Métropole) managed to get away for some time but did not have the firepower to stay away.

Pichon was part of a six-rider break that formed with 10km to go and still had 20 seconds on the peloton with 3km to go, and held off the chasing group long enough to contend for the win.

This is Pichon’s third win in March, along with the Classic Loire Atlantique and the opening stage of the Coppi e Bartali.
