Quintana leads Movistar line-up for Tour de France

by CyclingTips

The Movistar team for the Tour de France is built around moving two-time runner-up Nairo Quintana to the top step. Alejandro Valverde, third-placed finisher in last year’s race, will captain the team in pursuit of their GC goal.

Quintana recently won the Route de Sud stage race, a traditional warm-up race for the Tour. He also spent a lot of time training at high altitude at his home in Colombia.

In addition to help from Valverde, Ion Izagirre is on the roster, coming off a time trial win and second overall at the Tour de Suisse.

A notable absence from the team is British rider Alex Dowsett who successfully defended his national time trial title last week.
