Rein Taaramae takes victory in the Tour de Slovenie

by CyclingTips

Rein Taaramae (Katusha) has added overall victory to his stage win at the Tour of Slovenia after holding on to the lead for the final two stages of the race.

The Estonian took out stage 2, the race’s queen stage, with a solo victory ahead of Australia’s Jack Haig (Orica-GreenEdge), propelling himself into the overall lead in the process. Taaramae followed up with a second-place finish in the stage 3 individual time trial — the last 6km of which was uphill — as Diego Ulissi (Lampre-Merida) won the stage and Omar Fraile (Dimension Data) took third.

Taaramae took an imposing lead of 1:42 into the final stage and he wouldn’t be dislodged, finishing safely in the peloton as teammate Alexander Porsev (Katusha) won the bunch sprint ahead of Rudiger Selig (Bora-Argon 18) and Kristian Sbaragli (Dimension Data).
