Patrick Seabase recreated the very first mountain stage of the 1910 Tour de France, the Col du Tourmale. And he did it like it was back then: in a single day on a fixed gear bike with no brakes.

“It’s a huge homage to cycling, to the pioneers,” said Seabase. “It’s also a revolution of what’s possible with such a minimalistic bike.”

At 2,115m, the Col du Tourmalet is the highest paved mountain pass in the French Pyrenees. In fact, this route known as the ‘treacherous stage’ was temporally removed from the race map only a few years after its introduction because of its toughness.

The 2016 Tour will climb the Tourmalet on the eighth stage of the race and to finish in Luchon, Seabase’s starting place.
