Rivera wins final stage as Cecchini claims overall at Internationale Thüringen Rundfahrt

by CyclingTips

American sprinter Coryn Rivera (UnitedHealthcare) won the final stage of the Internationale Thüringen Rundfahrt der Frauen while Italian Elena Cecchini (Canyon-SRAM) claimed the overall win.

Amy Pieters (Wiggle High5) in second was the only challenger to the speedy Rivera as the there was a two second gap to third place Nicole Hanselmann (Cervélo-Bigla).

Cecchini, who finished 30 seconds down in 22nd, had a big buffer on the field. She took over the GC lead by finishing second in a two-rider break on the penultimate stage, more than four minutes ahead of the peloton. Her Canyon-SRAM teammates controlled the race today to ensure the overall win.

“There was pressure one climb, otherwise her teammates were in control. A great win for Elena and the team!” said Canyon-SRAM DS Ronny Lauke.
