Romain Bardet will miss his planned season start at Ruta del Sol, which was also to serve as his first matchup against Chris Froome, due to an “embarrassing” arm injury sustained at home.

Bardet cut his forearm, requiring stitches and two weeks in a splint. AG2R did not specify how the its star Frenchman, third at the Tour de France last year, injured himself.

“My injury is more embarrassing than serious, and I will continue to keep up my training and return to competition very quickly,” Bardet said.
