It was a day of repeat victories at the Shimano SuperCrit over the weekend with Valentina Scandolara and Scott Sunderland both defending their titles from a year earlier.
Run by Melbourne’s St. Kilda Cycling Club, the 2016 SuperCrit featured strong fields in both the elite men’s and women’s races, with that depth reflected on the results sheet. In the women’s race Scandolara won in a bunch sprint and was joined on the podium by Annette Edmondson and Peta Mullens. Kendelle Hodges was fourth and former SuperCrit winner Kimberley Wells was fifth.
In the men’s race Sunderland took a commanding sprint victory ahead of Caleb Ewan and Steele von Hoff, while Brenton Jones and Mark Renshaw were fourth and fifth respectively.
