Scott Bicycles alerts consumers to fraudulent websites

Scott Bicycles is taking action against an emerging number of fraudulent websites luring consumers to online fake shops.

Fake online shops have been sweeping social media channels such as Facebook with increased intensity, promising discounts beyond 80% on a broad variety of Scott bikes. Sponsored ads lure potential customers to several fake shops, offering “too good to be true” deals. Consumers who place orders and make payments on such fraudulent websites often never receive the ordered goods.

In a press release, Scott stated that while it has been suing frauds for many years, it has recently undertaken more intense legal action against providers of several domains.

“As an innovative brand, Scott has been facing legal issues with product piracy and fake suppliers for quite some time. This is not something new. What is new is the emerging number of well-organized fake online shops with criminal intent luring consumers to fraudulent websites which look quite authentic at first sight,” said Reto Aeschbacher, Scott brand director.

Despite the fact that Scott is constantly chasing fake accounts, the frauds open new domains every week by changing URLs but keeping the same layout and design, creating a flood of additional fraudulent websites. Consumers can detect fraudulent websites by keeping an eye out for unreasonably low prices — up to 90% and cheaper. Another indication is when there is no distinction made between bike models. Also, these sites will list a higher selling price, crossed out, to emphasize a much lower price.
