Dimension Data’s Scott Thwaites has undergone successful back surgery to stabilize fractured vetebrae following a training crash. He remains in the hospital in stable condition but is expected to be released soon.

No details of the crash were provided by the team. Thwaites raced Milan-San Remo on Saturday and was scheduled to be part of the team’s classics squad. He joins teammates Mark Cavendish (broken rib), Bernie Eisel (broken wrist and facial injuries), and Mekseb Debesay (fractured pelvis) on the team’s injured list.
