Sep Vanmarcke wins the Ster ZLM Toer

by CyclingTips

A win on the penultimate stage of the Ster ZLM Toer in the Netherlands has set up Belgium’s Sep Vanmarcke (LottoNL-Jumbo) for overall victory.

Vanmarcke was strongest on the uphill finish into La Gileppe, finishing just ahead of cyclocross world champion Wout van Aert as the peloton splintered on the final ascent. Pieter Vanspeybrouck (Topsport Vlaanderen-Baloise) was third, three seconds in arrears.

The final stage of the five-stage race was a more traditional bunch sprint with local rider Wim Stroetinga (Parkhotel Valkenburg) taking stage honours ahead of stage 3 winner Dylan Groenewegen (LottoNL-Jumbo) and Vanmarcke. The end result: overall victory to Vanmarcke ahead of former overall leader Sean De Bie (Lotto Soudal) and stage 1 time trial victor Jos Van Emden (LottoNL-Jumbo).
