by Matt de Neef

A third-place finish on the penultimate stage of the Tour of Qinghai Lake has given Ukranian rider Sergiy Lagkuti (Kolss BDC) overall victory in the 13-stage Chinese race.

Lagkuti moved to the top of the general classification when he finished 28 seconds behind compatriot and teammate Andriy Vasylyuk in the 22.6km individual time trial, as Matej Mugerli (Synergy Baku) took second place, 16 seconds behind Vasylyuk.

Italian sprint sensation Jakub Mareczko (Wilier-Southeast) won the final stage in Baiyin, his third victory of the race, edging out two-time stage winner Marko Kump (Lampre-Merida) and Marco Benfatto (Androni Giocattoli).

But this year’s Tour of Qinghai Lake belonged to the Ukranians of team Kolss BDC. In addition to his overall victory Lagkuti also won stage 6, Vasylyuk won stage 12, and their teammate Vitaliy Buts won stage 4 and spent 10 days in the leader’s jersey.
