Shane Kelly backs Shane Perkins for Rio

by CyclingTips

Australian track champion Shane Kelly says Shane Perkins should be selected for the Rio Olympics, in order for Australia to be a medal contender in the team sprint event.

“He needs to be included for the guys to get up there,” Kelly told the Sydney Morning Herald.

“It’s a tough one, [but] his form at the moment is so good. He’s never gone as quick … I think he should be in.”

Perkins lost his national funding late last year and did not make the Australian team in March for the world track championships.

The team selection will be 5 July following the International Track Series Grand Prix, a four-day series of sprint racing in Melbourne.
