Sources: Roche to BMC

by CyclingTips

Sources familiar with the negotiations have said the current Irish road race and time trial champion Nicolas Roche will leave Team Sky for BMC Racing in 2017.

La Vuelta 2015 stage-18

Nicholas Roches wins stage 18 of the 2015 Vuelta a Espana.

Roche played a support role for Chris Froome at last year’s Tour de France and Vuelta a España, also winning a stage there after Froome abandoned with a broken foot.

The son of Irish cycling legend Stephen Roche would be bolstering BMC’s support of GC leader Richie Porte in his bid to win the 2017 Tour de France.

UCI rules bar teams from announcing signings until 1 August.

Team Sky has already confirmed that current Froome support riders Sergio Henao, Geraint Thomas, Mikel Nieve and Wout Poels will return to the team in 2017.
