Sunweb to move up to title sponsor of Giant-Alpecin team in 2017

by CyclingTips

Sunweb, a major tour operator in Europe and sponsor of multiple cycling programs, will move up to the title sponsor slot of the current Giant-Alpecin team in 2017. The Dutch company is looking to expand its business in Germany and is partnering with the German-based team in that effort.

“We see this partnership as a natural fit. We will be able to connect with a new audience of passionate cycling fans, especially in our growth countries,” said Gert De Caluwe, CEO of Sunweb.

“We will use the power of this team to roll out Sunweb’s strategy for future growth across Europe with a special focus on Germany, the country with the biggest outbound travel market in Europe.”

A current sponsor of the team since 2015, and a longtime sponsor in cyclocross, the move to first-name sponsor did not mention a secondary sponsor name, but the announcement did leave the possibility open. Alpecin had signed a four-year deal with the team in 2015.

The announcement also did not indicate if Giant would remain as a equipment partner.
