Tensions with Sanquer at Cofidis

by CyclingTips

Reports that growing tensions within the management of the Cofidis team have manager Yvon Sanquer on the hot seat. An article in L’Equipe says that the trust between the staff and Sanquer has eroded to the point of no return.

Yvon Sanquer (manager of Cofidis) swarmed by the media this morning asking about Remy Di Gregorio’s doping investigation and team suspension

Unnamed sources in the article say that Sanquer, “does not trust anybody; he goes behind everyone’s back; he even checks the valves on the wheels.”

Unlike many other teams where a management company owns the team and a sponsor merely cuts a cheque, Cofidis owns the team outright, and can dictate hiring and firing terms.

The company’s HR director, Thierry Vittu, told L’Equipe, “There is some tension. But Yvon is someone who is very demanding, both of others and of himself. Some are finding it difficult to put up with that. But that’s Yvon’s style of management. He feels that he needs to get right into the details.”
