by CyclingTips

Trek-Segafredo’s Edward Theuns crashed during the stage 13 time trial of the Tour de France and was forced to abandon the race.

Theuns crashed out on course and was taken to hospital.

“He has fractured vertebrae T12 which is unstable and will require surgery,” his team said.

The Belgian sprinter won a stage of the Belgium Tour last month and was fifth on stages one and three of this year’s Tour de France.
