Thibaut Pinot out of Tour de France

FDJ’s Thibaut Pinot abandoned the Tour de France following stage 12 due to illness. The French climber lost the polka dot climber’s jersey to stage winner Thomas De Gendt. (Lotto-Soudal).

His team Tweeted a statement but no more details were offered.

Pinot had been struggling in the Pyrenees, losing time in the general classification.

Pinot finished third in the 2014 Tour and had high hopes for this year’s race. He won the Critérium International earlier in the year and the French time trial championship.
