Thibaut Pinot wins the Tour de l’Ain

by CyclingTips

Thibaut Pinot (FDJ) has gone some of the way to making up for a frustrating Tour de France by winning the Tour de l’Ain.

Pinot jumped into the overall lead on stage 3 of the four-stage race when he finished second behind young teammate David Gaudu, the pair having ridden away from the field to finish nearly a minute ahead of their nearest challenger. That result put Pinot just one second clear of Gaudu atop the general classification.

On the final stage, a late ascent of the Col du Grand Colombier saw a significantly reduced field reach the finish in Culoz. Alexander Geniez (Ag2r La Mondiale) took the stage victory while Pinot was second with the same time, ensuring he’d win the race overall.
