Four days before the race begins in Edinburgh, Team Sky has unveiled a strong lineup for its home race, the OVO Energy Tour of Britain. Tour de France stage winner and yellow jersey Geraint Thomas will spearhead the squad, and will draw additional motivation from the race’s finish on Sunday week in his hometown of Cardiff.
Joining him will be fellow Welshman Owain Doull, a gold medallist in the Rio Olympics, plus another Briton, Tao Geoghegan Hart. “The support from the British fans is always fantastic and it’s going to be great to race at home,” said Thomas. “We’ve got a strong squad coming and I’m really looking forward to it. Coming back to Cardiff is going to be special and it’s something the Welsh guys have been talking about since the route was announced.”
The impressive selection also includes former world road race champion Michal Kwiatkowski, who won Milan – San Remo, Strade Bianche and San Sebastian this year, and helped Chris Froome to a fourth overall win in the Tour de France.
Past world team time trial champion Vasil Kiryienka and Olympic gold medallist Elia Viviani complete the squad. The latter has been in a rich run of form of late and, along with his teammates, will be chasing big results in the event.
