Tour de France King of the Mountains Barguil and Moinard join Fortuneo-Oscaro squad

by VeloClub

Weeks after a spectacular Tour de France which yielded two stage wins, the King of the Mountains jersey, tenth overall and the combativity award, Warren Barguil has inked a contract with the French Fortuneo-Oscaro squad.

Barguil is, like the team, from Brittany, where the Tour de France is expected to spend time in next year. The squad is a Pro Continental outfit but, with the signing of Barguil plus the current BMC Racing Team rider Amaël Moinard – plus other WorldTour riders yet to be announced – it is showing it has higher ambitions for the future.

“I have seen the rise of the team in recent years. As the last Tour de France shows, there is a very solid collective and individuals who are capable of achieving very important results at this level,” said Barguil. “[General Manager] Emmanuel Hubert has the ambition to make the team grow even more with a project that I find exciting.” He added that the familial feeling of the team was important for him and so too the green light from Hubert for him to keep the attacking approach he showed in the Tour de France.

“It’s a tremendous pride for the entire Fortuneo-Oscaro team to see the arrival, amongst us, of a great champion like Warren,” said Hubert. “He will be able to count on all the desire and collective strength of a team that has long been waiting to support a strong leader, capable of winning the biggest races at the international level.”

Moinard said that he knows Barguil well and is motivated to help him with his targets. “The goal will be to unite the team around Warren, a strong and charismatic leader.”
