Tour de Korea opener won by Jon Aberasturi

by Matt de Neef

Mere hours after his teammate and compatriot Oscar Puyol won the Tour of Japan, Spaniard Jon Aberasturi (Team UKYO) claimed the opening stage of the Tour de Korea.

The opening stage of the eight-stage race came down to a bunch sprint in Gumi after 189.1km with Aberasturi edging out Australia’s Brenton Jones (Drapac) and Joon Yong Seo (KSPO).

Last year’s Tour de Korea was dominated by Caleb Ewan who won four stages and the overall. Ewan’s Orica-GreenEdge team is not in attendance this year, however.
