by CyclingTips

Organisers of the Tour of Flanders announced the seven wildcard teams that will join the 18 WorldTour teams for the 2017 edition of the race, with the majority consisting of Belgian squads.

“We will have a very strong field of competitors at the start,” said race director Wim van Herreweghe.

Sport Vlaanderen-Baloise, Wanty-Groupe Gobert and Verandas Willems-Crelan got the nod, along with French teams Direct Energie and Cofidis. The Dutch Roompot-Nedelandse Loterij squad and Wilier Triestina from Italy were also invited.

The Belgian WB Veranclassic Aqua Protect was the only Belgian ProContinental team not to receive an invitation.
