Jakub Mareczko (Willier-Southeast) made it a hat trick at the Tour of Taihu Lake, winning his third stage in another field sprint and extending his lead in the points competition. He beat the Nippo – Vini Fantini duo of Nicolas Marini and Eduard Michael Grosu.
The sprint finish was not the only drama of the day as race leader Cameron Bayly (Attaque Team Gusto) crashed with seven kilometres to go. By then the breakaway had been caught and the sprint teams were full-gas, lining up for the finish.
Fortunately, his teammate Adler Martz was there to give him a bike, and the rest of the team pulled Bayly back into the field to retain his lead of 15 seconds over Giuseppe Fonzi (Wilier Triestina-Southeast).
However, tomorrow’s final stage could be a challenge to clinch the overall as it features a lot of climbing and finishes at the Maoshan Scenic Area. In addition to Fonzi, 11 other riders are within a minute of Bayly.
